Two officers were assaulted Friday morning at the South Central Correctional Center at Licking.

Two officers at the South Central Correctional Center at Licking received moderate injuries in an assault by an inmate this morning, officials said.

Both men are reported in good condition this afternoon, said David Owen, communications director for the Missouri Department of Corrections.

The investigation continues, and the department activated eight Corrections Emergency Response Teams to assist in the search of the 1,600-bed facility on West Highway 32. The department did not disclose whether any weapons were found and what injuries were sustained.

“As always, the safety and the security of the public, staff and offenders is the highest priority of the department,” said Owen. “Any incident is taken seriously and reviewed to make sure all the appropriate actions are taken.”

The Licking Fire Department was called just before 7 a.m. to establish a landing zone for an air ambulance near the water tower situated on West Highway 32 near the prison.
